Climbing

Alpine sports have a great tradition in Pontresina. The mountain village, situated as it is in the centre of the Bernina Massif, was and is the ideal location for mountain climbing. The imposing mountains were first climbed in the middle of the 19th century, predominantly by local mountaineers. Ever since then, the Engadine's majestic ice- and snow-covered mountains have been a major attraction and destination for all mountain climbers.

Would you like to cross a glacier equipped with pickaxe and crampons, climb over the ridge of the Bianco to the Piz Bernina, secured by the rope of an experienced mountain climber, or feel the proximity of the granite on a climbing route? Try one of the vie ferrate, or tackle easy or difficult obstacles in the lofty heights of the high-rope challenge course. All these thrilling challenges and more  can be tackled in Pontresina and the surrounding area.

The Pontresina Mountain Climbing School and Go Vertical are pleased to make recommendations about the most attractive tours and climbing routes and offer guided tours and training courses of all types. Please note that the mountain guides are well booked in the high season. It is therefore advisable to book your guide in good time.
